Osun Election: APC Studies Results, Considers Next Move After Adeleke’s Victory
APC Reviews Election Outcome as Legal Options Come Into Focus
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State says it is carefully studying the results of the just-concluded governorship election before deciding on its next course of action.
The development comes after Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party was declared winner of Saturday’s election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adeleke secured 511,067 votes, defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. The governor won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured 11.
APC Says Election Process May Not Be Over
Following the announcement of the result, the Osun APC indicated that it was reviewing the results across the state before determining what action to take.
The party has also said it will explore available constitutional avenues regarding the election outcome. Reports indicate that the party has begun consultations with its legal team.
This means the APC’s next move could potentially involve challenging aspects of the election through the appropriate legal process, although the party has not announced a final decision to pursue a tribunal case.
What Happened During the Election?
The election was closely watched across Nigeria, with Adeleke and Oyebamiji emerging as the two leading contenders.
After the final results were collated, Adeleke was declared the winner and returned to office for another term.
The result triggered celebrations among Adeleke’s supporters, particularly in Osogbo and Ede, while the APC began reviewing its performance and the results recorded across the state.
Adeleke Calls for Peace
Following his victory, Adeleke extended an olive branch to his political opponents and called for unity across Osun State.
The governor said there should be no victor or vanquished and indicated that his administration would work toward healing political divisions that emerged during the campaign.
Adeleke also called on Oyebamiji to congratulate him following the election result.
What Happens Next?
The APC’s decision in the coming days will be closely watched.
If the party decides to challenge the result, it would have to use the legal mechanisms provided under Nigeria’s electoral framework. If it accepts the outcome, attention will likely shift toward rebuilding its political structure and preparing for future elections.
For Adeleke, the immediate challenge will be translating his electoral victory into governance while addressing the political divisions that characterised the campaign.
The Osun election has therefore moved from the campaign stage into a new phase — the post-election battle over what the result means and what happens next.
For now, the APC says it is studying the figures and considering its options.
The big question is: Will the APC accept Adeleke’s victory, or will Osun see another legal battle over the governorship?
